Kelly Skaggs

Owner, Studio & Competitive Company Director & Educator

Kelly began dancing in Illinois at the age of 3. She moved to the Waukesha area and danced competitively with Accent on Dance for 5 years. In 1992, she began teaching at the YWCA in Waukesha, where she mastered the art of teaching dance under the instruction of Faye Quam Heimrel. Kelly is a college graduate from Winona State University in Minnesota with a Bachelors of Science in Business and Dance, with an emphasis in Management. While at Winona State, Kelly choreographed all 4 years for Dancescape, the Dance Department's annual showcase, attended ACDFA, and was the President of Dance Society. She had the opportunity to work with Margolis Brown and Co, Doug Verone, Kim Neil Nolfsinger, and James Sewall Ballet Company. After graduating, Kelly became the Dance Director at the YWCA in Waukesha until 2004 when it closed it's doors. Kelly opened Studio One Dance Company in July, 2004 with 2 dance studios. In 2006, Kelly expanded her space with the addition of a 3rd dance studio, small practice space and opened Dance Couture, Etc. to offer her clientele the ease of shopping for all their dancewear needs. In January of 2012, a 4th studio and Yoga space were added and allowed room for our new student lounge. On any given day you'll find Kelly wearing a variety of hats...Wife, Mother, Business Owner, and Dance Instructor...LIFE IS GOOD!


Betsy Kujath

Office Manager, Competitive Co. Assistant

Betsy Kujath is from Mondovi, WI. She began studio dancing at age 11 at Dance with Grace School of Dance. She continued studio dancing through high school and was on the varsity dance team at Mondovi High School for four years. Betsy attended Carroll University and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology. While at Carroll, Betsy was on the dance team, the Blaze, for four years and served as team captain for two years. Betsy began teaching hip hop at the Waukesha YWCA in 2003. She joined Studio One Dance Company when its doors first opened in 2004! In addition to teaching, Betsy has coached high school, college, and semi-professional dance teams for ten years. Betsy is the proud mother of two sons and a daughter, a SODC dancer!


Ashley Tomaszewski

Artistic director, Dance Educator

Ashley is a graduate of Butler University with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Pedagogy, having graduated in May 2018 cum laude with departmental honors in dance. She has trained at various companies during previous summers, including Missouri Contemporary Ballet and Complexions Contemporary Ballet under Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson.

Ashley’s performance experience ranges from classical to contemporary works. Ashley’s classical performance roles include those from The Nutcracker, Cinderella, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake,Giselle, Paquita, and excerpts from The Little Humpbacked Horse and Les Sylphides. Her contemporary performance experience includes original works by Marek Cholewa and Cynthia Pratt-including StreamLines, a project that was part of a grant from the National Science Foundation to address environmental issues with Indianapolis waterways. Ashley also performed as the soloist in The Yellow Wallpaper, which was the recipient of a JCA collaborative grant and featured music by Jeremy Gruner and choreography by Sarah Morris. During her time at Butler, Ashley was also able to perform as a principal in Derek Reid’s Finding Wings and as a soloist in Susan McGuire’s Largo. Additionally, Ashley had the opportunity to perform abroad in Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic as a soloist in Eliza Woitinnek’s When That Happened It Was Now.

Ashley’s choreography was recently performed in Europe during the summer of 2018. Performed by dancers of ButlerBallet, her works Self-protocol and Duet of Five were performed in Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.

Ashley is currently Associate Artistic Director and Company Artist with Water Street Dance Milwaukee. She is also a  G2 artist with Geometry Dance Company in Los Angeles, CA.

Her most recent choreographic commissions include Water Street Dance Milwaukee’s Trainee Program (2021) and Tarantism Unfolds Contemporary (2021). She was  a selected choreographer for T2’s SPRINGbreak Choreo Fest 2022, as well as a selected choreographer for MashUp Contemporary Dance’s International Women’s Day Festival-where she presented her work, “Busy and Important,” in Los Angeles in March 2022. She also participated as a choreographer for L.A. Contemporary Dance Choreo Lab: 04 in July 2022. 

Ashley is also Artistic Director of Studio One Dance Company in Wales, WI.


andy zavadsky

Guest Choreographer

Andy Zavadsky started his dance career at age 3 where he studied ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop. By the age of 8, he entered into the competitive world where he began winning Titles for his outstanding technique and showmanship. Upon graduation of high school, he attended the University of Alabama under the direction of Cornelius Carter & Lawrence Jackson on a full academic and athletic scholarship. He double majored and received his Bachelor of Arts in dance and exercise science in May 2020. During this time, he found his passion for teaching and choreography. He has set numerous studio pieces throughout the United States, received choreography awards and won national titles for his work. He currently judges for Fly Dance Competition. Based now in Madison, WI, he is excited to continue his passion of dance back in the studio and in the competitive circuit.


Lindsay Stevens

Dance Educator

A University of Minnesota alumni, Lindsay M. Stevens is a dance artist and educator based in Milwaukee, WI. While in Minneapolis she had the pleasure of working with members of the Trisha Brown Dance Company and Merce Cunningham Dance company. Over the last decade, she has enjoyed presenting original work at dance festivals and events in Phoenix, Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, and New York City. Currently, she teaches at Studio One and you can find her choreographing and performing in various theaters in the Milwaukee area.


Abi Shephard

Dance Educator

Raised in Natick, Massachusetts, Abi Shepherd trained at the Walnut School of Ballet along with multiple competition teams. After moving to Indiana, she trained with G.Scotten Talent Center’s competition team which led to her graduation from the University of Alabama Honors College with a BA in Dance and an additional BS in Marketing.

While in college, she was a scholarship recipient for Gus Giordano as well as Inaside Chicago Dance and interned for ABT summer intensive. She has choreographed and performed pieces that were presented in Dance Alabama, Dance Collection and Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre. She also received the “Best Performance” award for her dance film “accept it or not, it’s gonna happen” presented at Dance Alabama Film Festival in which she directed and performed. After college, also the beginning of the pandemic, she joined Madison Contemporary Dance Company where she choreographed and performed for 2 seasons. She now is choreographing and teaching at All-Star and competition studios in the Milwaukee area. Abi also has been judging regional and national competitions for 3 years and serving as a guest choreographer/teacher for various studios in the Midwest.


Katie Bey

Dance Educator

Ms. Katie has been teaching for three decades and has experience working with recreational & competitive dancers. Her first dance experiences included dancing in her mom’s home studio before moving to Wisconsin and taking instruction at Wempners School of Dance in Fond du Lac where she was a 7 year member of the Free Spirit Dance Company. At 16, Katie began assistant teaching and ran her own classes her senior year. After graduating from Marquette University, Katie became a professional in higher education admission and marketing, but her happy job was always teaching dance back at Wempners. She coached the Marian University Dance team for several years. In 2014, the Bey family moved to Green Bay where Ms. Katie joined the staff of Forever Dance Company and helped shape the studio culture, developed their ballet and tap programs, and served in the capacity as Senior Instructor. She teaches all ages with a fondness for dancers 12 and under as she loves to inspire a passion for dance. Competitively, many of her pieces received judges awards, top five placements, and, she has been recognized with choreography awards. She is certified level 1 Acrobatic Arts instruction and Progressing Ballet Technique and also teaches creative movement, ballet, tap, jazz, pom, musical theater, modern, contemporary, and lyrical. Ms. Katie passionately believes in keeping youth safe and modest in dress and through appropriate choreography, celebrating the uniqueness of the individual while promoting the importance of great teamwork, and helping all dancers achieve their personal potential.


Dani Westphal

Guest Choreographer

Dani has been dancing since age 3. Her backgrounds of styles include tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, funk and pom. She competed regionally and nationally for 15 years winning scholarships for her dancing. During that time, she was on the Waukesha South Varsity Pom team for 4 years and captain for 3 years. Her passion and love for dance is visible through her choreography, which has won awards both regionally and nationally. She began teaching recreational/competitive dance at age 15 at a studio in Brookfield: From there she became the Tap Program Director at Studio One where she rapidly grew the program from 7 to 65 dancers in one year. Dani continued to thrive as an instructor and choreographer as she brought the team multiple 1st place awards in various competitions. She loves kids and finds that there's nothing like experiencing a child gain confidence in themselves and passion for the art of dance. She is very excited to be welcomed back to the SODC family!


JD Bustos

Dance Educator

Originally born in Panama, JD has been teaching Hip-Hop and Reggaeton since 2016. In 2017 he started teaching in the All Star Dance circuit and continued with a junior team for the next 3 years. During that time he was teaching, JD started dancing with a Hip-Hop crew in Panama called TROKIS DC. Shortly after practicing, the crew entered in the prestigious event, World of Dance: Panama. When they competed in 2019, his team took 3rd place!

Shortly after, he moved to the U.S. to pursue his dreams of working in dance. Since starting his teaching career, he has found more of a passion in dancing than ever and is excited to have the opportunity to prove his skills and talent in the US! JD is detail-oriented, and he he wants every student to grow to their full potential.


Lauryn Schubert

Dance Educator

Lauryn started her dance career at the age of 3 where she took on ballet, tap, lyrical and jazz. Lauryn joined the competitive dance world, at a small studio in Beaver Dam WI, at the age of 7. This is when she found more love and passion for all types of genres. She made the move to Studio One Dance Company, when she was 14. Lauryn received many advanced overall placements and awards throughout her high school dance career. Studio One Dance Company also gave her opportunities to be a teachers assistant as well as a teacher. Lauryn’s students have received high overalls and placements. Now, Lauryn is graduating from Beaver Dam High School to take on being a dance teacher, here at Studio One Dance Company, as well as working for her real estate license.
